Alabama Rot, proper name CRGV, is a serious disease ** in dogs only ** and one which has become more prevalent in parts of the UK recently. You may have seen coverage about it in the media over the last few days as a conference is taking place this week to discuss it. While it is a serious disease, please don’t panic. Cases are still very rare. We don’t yet know what causes it so the best thing you can do is to be vigilant and to look out for unexplained lesions or swellings which tend to appear below a dog’s elbow or knee or on the belly or muzzle. If you have any concerns or would like more information, please contact us.
Please note that after further testing of the recently reported case in Wantage, the report concluded that “toxicity exposure is more likely to be the cause of poor Charlie’s death” (posted on Medivet Wantage on 18th April).
